Poster Competition: Results

On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, AbGradCon hosted a competition of high school and college posters. We had four participants: one from Montana, one from the Republic of Georgia, one Tanzanian and one Ugandan studying in Tanzania. Through Adobe Connect, we were able to talk with participants overseas about their work, as well as with the MSU student, who attended the event.

Poster competition results:

High School Category:

1. Natik Kurbanov, Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Republic of Georgia; 166 points. Topic: Bussar Ion Ramjet.
2. Tiago Kevin Patrick, Academic International Secondary School, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; 165.5 points. Topic: Extremophiles in Tanzanian soda lakes. 

College Category:

1. Alta Howells, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, USA; 165 points. Topic: Characterization of the Nar1 Fe-Fe hydrogenase.
2. Caesar Oweitu Celsus, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; 158 points. Topic: Biofuel production using microalgae.

Each student received a 200 USD prize, a NASA backpack, poster and graphic novel, a certificate of participation and comments on their work from the judges (AbGradCon ’11 participants).
